A Little Green. There are of course lots of green spaces in and around London. Here however is an example of minimalist gardening at its best, seen here in Paddington.

We found a great Fullers pub not far from Paddington station, The Victoria. Nice sunny day as well.
Paul and Laura a Marriage on the Marathon Run
I don’t know if it is the first time that this has happened but Paul and Laura ran the 2015 London Marathon and at some point got married along the way and then carried on. I hope that they finished and good luck for them in the future.

You will see many sights when you watch the London Marathon but I have never seen Jesus before and carrying a cross. Very impressive.

UK Election 2015 – time for a major change
With the UK general election almost upon us isn’t time that we had some radical changes? Here are some to think about:
1. Empty properties in London and other major cities, if they are not being lived in by the owners for more than a month per year then the local councils have the right to rent them out at affordable rents to people. This would stop the one percent using our cities and homes as investment vehicles.
2. Corporations, all corporations in retail, food, clothing and entertainment to be limited. Let’s put individuality, small owners, family businesses back into the running of our cities.
3. Commercial property owners of retail space, cap and reduce the rent they can charge allowing non corporate businesses to start and flourish.
I’m sure that there are a few more that we can think of to divide up the wealth in a fairer way.
Let’s break the chains that bind us the ninety nine percent.
Wild Tales – Relatos Savajes
I have just been to see this wonderful and very funny film that is wicked in its dark humour content. It takes every day situations, six of them, and exaggerates their outcomes. The film was produced by Almodovar and has his style stamped all over it. While waiting for the film to start there were several Hollywood trailers that featured many special visual and audio effects, car chases and killing people. In comparison then it would appear that Hollywood has not only lost the plot but lost all the plots. In Britain it would be nice to see some of the independent film makers products. The slops that Hollywood produced can’t be everything that comes out of the US.
Royal Society lecture 21st April – Ice loss and sea level rise
This evening I went to a free lecture at the Royal Society in London. A lecture entitled Continental loss: the quest to determine Antarctica’s contribution to sea-level change, https://royalsociety.org/events/2015/04/continental-loss/ given by an excellent speaker, Professor Matt A King of Tasmania University. It was well presented and is on a subject of great importance. Despite that the hall was only about a third full and that is in a city of 7 to 8 million people. Perhaps they will only wake up when the water is up to their ankles because the Thames Barrier has been overrun by the actual change. We should be afraid not of the uncertainty in the measurements but in the lack of measurements and what we are missing by not having said measurements. It’s coming, it’s just a question of when and with it will come exodus and migration as our ever growing human population tries to move away from the problems of our own making.
So many empty properties – so many homeless people – Take back the cities part 1
In London, like many other major cities we have a problem. That’s were the work is but nobody can afford to live here and even if they could there wouldn’t be enough properties but I would love to see the number of empty investment properties around. So here’s an idea so that Londoners can live in London, New Yorkers can live in New York and Parisians can live in Paris etc. Take a city, take the central area where all the work is and make it law that only individuals can own housing in that area. Then make it a law that unless the actual individual owner spends at least one continuous month there that the local authority has the right to house a local person there at an affordable rent and I do mean affordable for as long as the owner is away. Needs the flesh putting on the bones of course. Take back the cities part 1.
Tea and Sangria – Indie film
If you get a chance and you want to see a great little independent film then pay to see Tea and Sangria. It is a film by Peter Domankiewicz who has put his life, soul and most of his money into making and getting it distributed. He and the cast all deserve success with this wonderful romcom. It is the story of David who moves to Madrid to live with his Spanish girlfriend but not everything goes to plan. Search for it on Twitter and Facebook as well as looking at the reviews.
